A student approached his master to seek help for his hot-headedness and temper:
“Master, I have a terrible temper. How can I cure it?”
“You have something very strange,” — replied the master — “Show me this temper so I may fix it.”
“I can’t show it to you now” — replied the student.
“When can you show it to me?” — asked the master.
“It arises unexpectedly, I don’t know when I will have it next” — replied the student.
“Then,” — concluded the master — “it must not be your own true nature. If it were, you could show it to me at any time.”
“When you were born, you did not have it, and your parents did not give it to you. So where is it, and does it truly belong to you?”
