I had this moment many times from childhood. I remember seeing a city from up high. The lights in the darkness. The town looked so small and insignificant to the nature around it. The endless sky. I also experienced this looking out to sea.
Also in altered states, from hallucinogens, psychosis, meditation, etc.
Thank you for sharing this. It puts into words what I’ve experienced my whole life and which has intensified in recent years. The sense of fear, beauty, awe…breathtaking and close yet impossibly distant, fleetingly felt in those liminal spaces of place and time. To know that this is a common and uniting condition of all beings (the look that sometimes appears in the eyes of dogs comes to mind)…this is very comforting. Peace.
